When summer rolls around and the breeze is warm, Kayla Kennett and I find our way into trouble.
The good kind of trouble: dancing and drinking wine, making new friends, plotting art projects and figuring out the hottest new snack in our shared neighborhood.
Something really special about Human Centric Media is the way my art practice and interpersonal relationships are so interwoven. Long ago, I figured out that making portraits was a wonderful way to celebrate the beautiful people already in my life. The resulting portraits spotlight the richness already present in our friendship. No special direction is necessary.
The techniques, both photographic and relational, that I deploy in making art with my friends are the same ones I deploy with strangers: taking time to listen. Caring authentically about how someone else feels. Knowing they have a story worth sharing with the world. Creating an artistic platform for them to share it.
That's the very essence of Human Centric Media, and the engine that drives my life.
