The best part of making photographs at Trans Town PDX 2026, hosted at The Redd on Salmon, was seeing the breadth and diversity of our community on full display.
There were trans people who make art and trans social workers, nonbinary nature lovers and gender fluid individuals who have never met a craft they don’t like. Queers and their beaus and their adorable families.
Everyone shared a similar shine of self love and determination, of knowing what it’s like to choose to honor yourself, your feelings and your love.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about infinite human diversity. How varied and unique we all really are.
The vastness of our collective experience is almost unimaginable, and that freaks a lot of people out! Our lives ask us: what do I want to be? It’s a big, scary question.
Trans and queer people, our existence begs that question in people’s hearts. Some of them aren’t ready.
But if you can open your heart up to this vastness of experience, there is so much more to learn from each other! Connection to be found. Love and heartbreak. The good stuff.
Carve out some space, I say .. break some new ground, come party. The water's warm.
Like any other community, sometimes we let each other down. But I’m glad to be in this city with these people, who are answering that question for themselves, and trying to make room for others to ask it.
