Hard to believe, but I'm about to enter my 14th year in Portland! It's the longest I've ever lived in the same place (and I'm not going anywhere).
You know what rocks so hard about this community? The ways we respond when things get tough. What we build and say in response.
Since Human Centric Media was born in 2017, the city has changed a lot.
Champions have dug in to defend our institutions from fascism. Others fled for redder pastures, uncomfortable with the rate of change. We took to the streets for 100 nights in response to racist, state-sanctioned murder. We passed preschool for all, decriminalized drugs, and reformed our city charter.
Debate the effectiveness of these movements if you want, but you can't deny that Portland's relationship to our government (and downtown) has shifted forever. Any effort to go back to before, without meaningfully reckoning with the underlying emotions and trauma, is doomed to failure.
The moment requires both authenticity and nuance.
Miranda Rabuck has built a career caring for this community.
She's a communications leader who specializes in growing capacities, raising money and catalyzing impact. She has over a decade of experience supporting mission-driven organizations like The Full Frame Initiative, Central City Concern and Children First for Oregon. She's influenced conversations in city government, systems change and foster care reform, unlocking hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and philanthropy.
And when you spend time with her, several things become very clear:
- Miranda is playing the long game, with experience and vision
- She cares about her neighbors, and building systems that support us all
- She's exactly the sort of partner you need to make lasting impact
Together we are announcing just such a partnership: Miranda is joining the Human Centric Media team as our Strategic Communications Lead.
We're going to demonstrate our shared ethos: amplifying voices in an ethical and empowering way, using authenticity to cut through the noise, and helping changemakers reach for their most aspirational goals -- by building custom strategic communications plans that put our media to work.
We both know that every dollar counts right now. Every decision is an inflection point. We'll help your comms point towards growth.
Through January 31st, Miranda is accepting nominations for her 2026 pro-bono cohort: four selected changemakers who face barriers to her services will be awarded with a strategic partnership toward their goals.
For both of us, this year is a culmination of hard-fought lessons. We are committed to walking a bold path with you, confidently and with care.
